If you’ve spent any time researching the different layers of the Spiritual World you’ve most likely come across the phrase ‘astral projection’ or ‘astral travel’. But what is astral projection and how can you - yourself astral project?
What is Astral Projection?
There are two schools of thought on the nature of astral projection, the Phase Model and the Mystical Model.
I personally resonate with the Mystical Model and believe that during astral projection, your conscious mind leaves your physical body and moves into your astral body. Your astral and physical bodies are attached by a silver rope resembling an umbilical cord, and while projecting you are consciously aware of everything you encounter while in your astral body.
The Phase Model
In contrast, this model, created by Robert Monroe, explains that it’s actually impossible to leave your body, and that the astral planes and the physical world are just points in the vast spectrum of consciousness. The theory is that when you project, you're actually phasing into another area of consciousness. Think of it akin to changing a station on a radio. This viewpoint stands on the premise that external reality is actually an internally created state.
How Do You Astral Project?
Astral Projection is an out-of-body experience that can be achieved while awake, via lucid dreaming or deep meditation. It is best if you’re reclining, wearing comfortable clothes, and most importantly – you’re feeling completely relaxed and receptive.
Bonus Tip: If you’re going to Astral Project, place a comforter over your body because your physical body tends to get cold when you travel.
Other Types of Projection
Etheric projection is often used as a synonym for Astral Projection, but this is misleading. During etheric projection, your consciousness enters your etheric body. This etheric body is believed to be the “true” individual and its function is to allow psychic abilities to arise.
Mental projection is the projection of the astral body to the mental plane through the use of mental energy while in the astral plane. In this plane mathematical functions and thoughts manifest physically. The mental plane is usually highly colorful and resembles a kaleidoscope it is separated from the astral plane by the Akashic Records. The Akashic Records is a library of knowledge of all past, present, and future possibilities.
Astral Projection is natural for some people but can be difficult to learn for others. If you’re having a hard time Astral Projecting please don’t get discouraged. Be patient with yourself and practice as often as possible. Astral Projecting can give you access to visions of the past or future, and open your consciousness to a vast dimension of knowledge.
